Sled's up, Penguins!

We're super excited to announce that Sled Racing will be releasing to our snowy island on March 4th. But, it's not just the beloved game you all may remember playing years ago, we've made numerous new updates during development and have completely remastered the Sled Racing experience. At Club Penguin Legacy, we love to pay our homage to the original game while also adding in some quality of life improvements and much needed facelifts to better improve the gameplay and artwork.

From all-new artwork to in-game experiences you won't want to miss. This blog post will encapsulate some of the upcoming changes to our remastered version of Sled Racing. But first, before we dive too deep... Let's announce our next brand-new event that will be arriving next week.

The Extreme Sled Race Event

Our next event is The Chilly Sled-Fest and is happening starting March 3rd to March 6th to celebrate the release of Sled Racing! We're super excited for this event and Aunt Arctic is also expected to visit. It's been a long time since Aunt Arctic has visited the island. Along with her visit, a rare mascot background will be returning for everyone to grab, the Aunt Arctic's Expedition Giveaway which only 0.75% of our community has.

During the event, you'll be able to relive similar mazes and puzzles from our August Mountain Expedition event with one new Puzzle room for you to solve. You'll be able to climb the tallest mountain on Club Penguin island and purchase the latest new snow gear and collect a brand new reward for climbing the top.

Who knows? Maybe a certain inventor will visit during the event with ANOTHER extremely rare background...

When will Sled Racing release?

Sled Racing will officially release for everyone on March 4th, 2023. However, we'll be doing a soft launch of Sled Racing to test with our community members when the event first rolls out on March 3rd. You'll be able to help test and polish the remaining features to Sled Racing by climbing to the top of the mountain. There will only be one 4-track level to Sled Racing available on March 3rd, however the Mountain will be fully open on March 4th for you to race with your friends on all 4 tracks.

Sled Racing stamps will also be available for collection starting March 4th and other gameplay mechanics that we'll be going over shortly will be in beta testing and will slowly roll out with careful testing with our community!

What to expect from Sled Racing

Expect a remastered version of the original game, with new artwork, sound effects, and music that will surely compliment the original game. Here is an in-depth overview on the new features to expect from Sled Racing!

Queue System

Introducing the redesigned the Queue system from the ground up, with animations, sound effects, and music! We looked at the old loading screen and decided it needed some tender, love, and care. We took to the drawing board and designed an all-new, innovative, and creative queue system that is fun to interact with, and also wait with. Here is our new design of the Queue screen.

You can also now send alerts to other Penguins on the mountain.. You can press a button to signal other Penguins in the room to race. Here's what it looks like in-game!

Improved Experiences

We've taken the original Sled Racing experience and updated the artwork to better match the rest of our island, from subtle changes to the trees all the way to the hazards, we've made sure to retain the nostalgic factor of Sled Racing while still making it feel like it blends well with the rest of our island. The original game was last touched in 2005, which gives us a lot of wiggle room to update the game and add in some much need quality of life improvements.

You'll hear all-new music and sound effect as you play and it will feel like a much more polished experience than the one in the original game. We hope you enjoy some of these subtle improvements.

Stamps and Power Ups

There are all new stamps for Sled Racing that we are adding to the game, and more are on the way, we promise! This should encourage more Penguins to play Sled Racing to complete their Stamp Book collection! In the future, we can even add some collaborative stamps that you'll need to complete with your fellow racers. We'll see how that goes in the future. Here are a few glimpses of Sled Racing stamps to come for release? Can you guess what they are?

Along with Stamps, we're also working on Power Ups to the game, these Power Ups can be triggered in game through a variety of events and also depending on the type of Sled you may be racing with. We'll keep this information to ourselves, we're still working on finalizing the details, however we'll do some extensive testing with some of our active community members to see what areas we can improve on before rolling it out to the game.

Wrapping Up

We've been working on this game for many months now, a lot of the time has been spent improving the network functionality of the game and syncing of Penguins when playing to deliver the best experience possible. We're proud of the work that our team has put forward to improving the original game and hope that you'll enjoy it next week when you can start playing Sled Racing.

This is all but just a glimpse on what to expect from Sled Racing, there's TONS of minor updates to Sled Racing that you'll just have to be there to experience. Remember, the Chilly Sled-Fest Event kicks off on March 3rd, along with the soft launch of Sled Racing, and the full release will come on March 4th!
